Good Friends, Good Times!

Hello friends! I hope your weekend was a fun as mine! Kevin and I had our good friends Mike and Samantha staying with us and we had a blast! Mike and Samantha live in Michigan so they were excited to come spend some time with us in sunny Scottsdale. We had an action packed weekend.

On Friday we soaked up some sun by our pool and caught up. We may have even cracked a brew poolside while reminiscing about our college days (the good old days).

Later on Friday we had a surprised planned for the guys. We used to go to Wrigley Field together when we both lived in Chicago to cheer on the Cubs, so we thought it would be fun to go to a Cubs spring training game together. Nothing beats baseball and a Cubs win on a sunny day. Go Cubs go!

On Saturday, Samantha and I went to a boxing class bright and early. She had done a boxing class before so I had her show me the ropes (no pun intended), but caught on pretty quickly. It was a great calorie blasting working, mixing in 8 round of boxing on the bags with squats, pushups, and burpees in between. After we finished we headed to the spa for a massage before the boys joined us for lunch.

Later in the day we got some ice cream from Shakes & Cones in Old Town and took a stroll around Old Town Scottsdale. We were lucky enough to witness a cowboy show in the park that we found pretty funny and enjoyed showing Mike and Samantha around.

On Sunday the boys went golfing and we did a little shopping in the morning. After a great lunch we hiked Sunrise Peak and took in some beautiful views of the city.

We are headed to Peru in July together to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu so it was great to break in our hiking boots and get some practice!

The boys had a little too much fun posing with the cactus and showing off their muscles. What goofs we have for husbands!

It was sad when the weekend came to an end. We had such a great time with Mike and Samantha. We wish we lived closer to each other. I guess the distance is an excuse to plan some more fun trips together!

Moving Update: A New Adventure In Scottsdale

I hope everyone had a nice weekend! Kevin and I have been in Scottsdale for 3 weeks now, and we are just starting to settle in. I forgot how much work moving is, let alone moving across the country! There are so many things you don’t think of like getting new licenses and license plates, finding the best grocery store in town, and Kevin’s favorite – hanging up all of our pictures on the walls in our apartment.

TogetherAtHeart_ScottsdaleWe are loving the new apartment and pool!

Other than the stress of the move, we’re really enjoying the area. Kevin has been getting out of work earlier, which allows us to make some great dinners together and we’ve taken a couple of night rides to check out our surroundings. It’s been over 100 degrees every day, which is what we expected.  Although it’s super hot it’s bearable since there’s very little humidity.

So far we really like our apartment complex. We spent last Saturday lounging in the pool, and have found ourselves using the community grills regularly to cook up some yummy kabobs and turkey burgers. We’ve also been trying out some new restaurants, and I’ve already found a couple great places for ice cream!

TogetherAtHeart_Scottsdale Kev loves his new mustang. We’ve been cruising around with the top down even with the heat!

In other exciting news, I recently accepted a new position at a local advertising agency! I’ve been working for my company in Chicago remotely since we moved, and I’m excited to start my new job in a couple weeks. It will be nice to get out of the house and meet some new people, and I’m excited to expand my skill set and explore the market here.

When we decided to move to Arizona, one thing we were really excited for was hiking and spending more time outdoors. This past weekend Kevin and I were able to do some hiking as we took on Camelback Mountain for the first time. It was a beautiful morning hike and a great workout. We started hiking at 6am to try and beat the heat, and it was almost 100 degrees by the time we finished.

The top was the scariest part, as you had to scramble up with your hands. I’m not the biggest fan of heights, but the view from the top was definetly worth it! We rewarded ourselves with some delicious breakfast once we reached the bottom. We are looking forward to hiking the other side of the mountain soon!

I’ll keep you posted as we continue to become familiar with our new home!
