Arizona Vacay

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend! I am feeling refreshed and relaxed after a week in Arizona with Mike, my parents, and Amanda and Kevin. The weather was gorgeous (80-90’s and sunny everyday) and nothing beats time spent with my favorite people!

We spent a lot of time during the day outside relaxing by the pool. Unfortunately Amanda and Kevin had to work most of the week, but we met up with them for dinners after work. They took the day off Friday and we hiked Camelback Mountain. It was a tougher hike but the view at the top was definitely rewarding!

We were foruntate enough to see Amanda and Kevin’s new house, it is beautiful! I can’t wait to stay there and see all the memories that are made within in. Congratulations to Amanda and Kevin!

I’m already missing vacation and my sister and Kevin, but have some exciting events coming up that are keeping the post-vacation blues at bay. I hope everyone has a great week and enjoys this Spring weather!

Visit with My Parents

Happy Monday! Today is an exciting day for Kevin and I as we closed on our house! We move in officially in a couple of weeks. We had an awesome weekend as well with my parents arriving to visit for the week. They arrived early Saturday morning and Meghan and her boyfriend Mike arrive tonight!

My parents arrived early on Saturday and we enjoyed breakfast before showing them our new house. We had dinner at my Mom’s favorite, The Henry, in Phoenix. On Sunday we hung out at the pool at their resort and watched the sunset with happy hour before heading to dinner.

I’m excited to see Meg today and make some more great memories together this week!

Life in the Southwest

Happy Monday! This weekend went by too fast as usual, but we had beautiful weather in Arizona making it perfect for a cruise with the top down in the Mustang.

Kevin and I made it through the hottest months in Arizona this summer, and we are excited to start enjoying the weather people visit Scottsdale for. I’m not going to complain about wearing flip flops in November!

Kevin and I have really been enjoying life in Scottsdale so far.  It’s crazy what a difference knowing every day is going to be sunny and beautiful makes in your day-to-day life. My favorite things about Scottsdale so for are:

1. Weather: I don’t remember the last time I checked the weather here. They aren’t kidding about the 299 days of sunshine here each year.  Although it was a little weird not feeling that fall breeze and even more odd to see friends and family back in the mid-west wearing scarfs, boots, and coats as fall approached, it’s awesome to be able to lay by the pool in November and not haveto wear a coat. Even the storms here are different, with the rain usually only lasting a few minutes.

2. Outdoor activities: I’m sure you’ve all seen my hiking pictures on the weekends, but it’s so easy to share the amazing views here at the top of our hikes. I never knew the desert was so beautiful! And if you get sick of the sun, you can travel a couple of hours north for some skiing.

3. Food: Coming from Chicago with endless restaurant options, I was worried we would get sick of the cuisine here quickly. We’ve been pleasantly surprised with the amount of options and quality of the food here. Being close to Phoenix we’ve tried a good amount of restaurants in both Scottsdale and Phoenix, and have found a few spots that are good enough to return to.

4. People:  In general, people here have been very friendly.  Leaving the midwest, we were concerned we would lose friendly people with midwest values and have found that not to be true.  Because Arizona is largely a transplant city, we’ve met a good amount of people from the midwest as well as other parts of the country who call Arizona home.

5. Proximity to other great cities: Scottsdale is a good distance from some great cities in the Southwest and West Cost including San Diego, Vegas, LA, and Utah. We’ve road-tripped to San Diego in September and have some places we would like to drive to in the coming months.

Have I convinced anyone to make Scottsdale home or the next vacation spot?Kevin and I look forward to some visitors this winter!

Sister Weekend!

Hello all! We are back this Monday with lots of fun memories to share as we were able to reunite in Arizona for a long weekend. Nothing like quality sister time! We packed lots of activities into our four days together and here are the highlights:

Meg arrived to the Scottsdale area Thursday afternoon. When Amanda got home from work, we went out for dinner at Grimaldi’s for pizza (and wine of course). Then, we enjoyed some time catching up before calling it a night.

We got up on this gorgeous day and headed to Camelback Inn for a spa day! We took a Pilates class, got massages, and ended the morning with a cocktail by the pool. Cheers!

Later that day, we visited Drybar, a salon that blow drys and styles your hair, to get ready for a night on the town! We went to dinner before heading to Whiskey Row for a night of country music, drinks, and dancing. We had (a little too much) fun!

This was a big day for Spartan fans as our football team was facing their rivals, UofM. We headed to an MSU bar, Wasted Grain, to root on our team. As most of you know, MSU won 27-23 in one of the most exciting and unexpected endings. Go green!

After the game, we had a couple celebratory drinks and dinner before wrapping up the night early in preparation for Sunday.

We woke up before the sun to beat the heat as we embarked on a 2 hour hike on Sunrise Trail to Sunrise Peak. It was a beautiful view at the top and a great workout!

We rewarded ourselves with a yummy breakfast and relaxed the rest of the day, enjoying each other’s company. It is always great to be together, but bittersweet as we have to say goodbye again. We are looking forward to being together again at Christmas. Hope you all had a great weekend!

Moving Update: A New Adventure In Scottsdale

I hope everyone had a nice weekend! Kevin and I have been in Scottsdale for 3 weeks now, and we are just starting to settle in. I forgot how much work moving is, let alone moving across the country! There are so many things you don’t think of like getting new licenses and license plates, finding the best grocery store in town, and Kevin’s favorite – hanging up all of our pictures on the walls in our apartment.

TogetherAtHeart_ScottsdaleWe are loving the new apartment and pool!

Other than the stress of the move, we’re really enjoying the area. Kevin has been getting out of work earlier, which allows us to make some great dinners together and we’ve taken a couple of night rides to check out our surroundings. It’s been over 100 degrees every day, which is what we expected.  Although it’s super hot it’s bearable since there’s very little humidity.

So far we really like our apartment complex. We spent last Saturday lounging in the pool, and have found ourselves using the community grills regularly to cook up some yummy kabobs and turkey burgers. We’ve also been trying out some new restaurants, and I’ve already found a couple great places for ice cream!

TogetherAtHeart_Scottsdale Kev loves his new mustang. We’ve been cruising around with the top down even with the heat!

In other exciting news, I recently accepted a new position at a local advertising agency! I’ve been working for my company in Chicago remotely since we moved, and I’m excited to start my new job in a couple weeks. It will be nice to get out of the house and meet some new people, and I’m excited to expand my skill set and explore the market here.

When we decided to move to Arizona, one thing we were really excited for was hiking and spending more time outdoors. This past weekend Kevin and I were able to do some hiking as we took on Camelback Mountain for the first time. It was a beautiful morning hike and a great workout. We started hiking at 6am to try and beat the heat, and it was almost 100 degrees by the time we finished.

The top was the scariest part, as you had to scramble up with your hands. I’m not the biggest fan of heights, but the view from the top was definetly worth it! We rewarded ourselves with some delicious breakfast once we reached the bottom. We are looking forward to hiking the other side of the mountain soon!

I’ll keep you posted as we continue to become familiar with our new home!

A New Adventure In Scottsdale

I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend!

My husband and I spent ours moving out of our apartment in Chicago, making a stop in Michigan on the 4th to visit family and friends, and flying to our new home yesterday in Scottsdale, Arizona!

My husband got a promotion with his company, and his job is taking us on a new adventure across the country. It’s always hard saying goodbye to friends and family, but we are looking forward to the warm weather and more active lifestyle that Arizona offers. We are also excited to try something completely new!

We got an apartment close to Old Town Scottsdale, and we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our belongings before moving in. Living in Scottsdale will be much different than Chicago. The biggest difference is that we will have cars and not being about to walk everywhere like we did in Chicago. We also don’t know many people in Arizona, so it will be great meeting new people as we explore the area and get acquainted.

I’m already looking forward to family and friends visiting us and especially cannot wait for Meghan’s visit in October. I’m excited to share more about our new home soon!
