Favorite Pinterest Workouts

Happy Monday! Hopefully everyone had a relaxing, refreshing weekend!

If you are looking for some extra workout motivation this week, I have just what you need! While I go to barre classes a few days a week, I go the gym the other days I workout to mix things up. Sometimes the gym isn’t as appealing to me because I have to create my own workout…and that’s where Pinterest saves the day! I will normally start my workout with a cardio session either on the stair master or treadmill before moving on to strength. I have a few Pinterest workouts, mostly created by my favorite bloggers, that are my go-to’s when I want to feel the burn without thinking too hard. I thought I would share a few of  them with you today, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! You do need equipment that most gyms have for most of these workouts. Happy sweating!

Hi All,

Happy Monday! I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. Kevin and I had an eventful weekend….WE BOUGHT A HOUSE! The seller accepted our offer yesterday and we still have a long process ahead of us, but we are very excited to be done with the house hunt and we cannot wait to  move in! We hope to have many visitors once we are settled in.

We found a neighborhood that we fell in love with in Scottsdale, and we knew we had to find a house there. It reminds us of the neighbor friendly neighborhoods that we grew up in back in Michigan!

House hunting was a long and sometimes frustrating process, but it all finally feels worth it now that we have a house. I will be sure to post pictures in a couple of months when we move in.

I hope everyone has a good week!

Blue Apron Review

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing weekend!

I recently tried Blue Apron after receiving a free week of meals from a friend from work. I have been wanting to try a healthy meal delivery service for a while now and this was the perfect opportunity to do so. After making an account on the Blue Apron website, I selected the 2-person  meal option and that I only wanted chicken, fish, and vegetarian dishes (I don’t eat red meat). I was excited for my first delivery and was impressed at how well packaged it was upon arrival. There were large ice packs inside to keep everything cold along with individually packaged vegetables, meat, and everything else needed for the recipes (spices,  cheese, etc.). I always feel like I’m wasting produce when I make recipes and only use a little bit of a package of vegetables so it was nice that they only sent the amount you need.

I received three meals, spiced chicken chili, baked ricotta cannelloni, and cajun catfish. I really enjoyed the spiced chicken chili and baked ricotta cannelloni. There was definitely enough for 2 people (Mike also approved of the dinners!). The recipes were easy to follow as there were preparation instructions such as washing and chopping vegetables and preheating the oven as well as detailed steps in a checklist format. The meals took about 30 minutes to make.

I recommend a meal delivery service, such as Blue Apron, for those who don’t have time to dig through recipes or scroll through Pinterest for recipe inspiration and want healthy, easy dinner recipes. The recipes I received were something I wouldn’t normally make, but I really enjoyed them! You can’t beat ready-to-make, healthy, delicious meals at your doorstep!

Have a great week!

House Hunting

I hope you had an awesome weekend! We got some rain here in Scottsdale, so it was the perfect weekend to be productive and I was able to get some rest after being sick last week.

For those of you who do not know, Kevin and I have been looking for a house in Scottsdale over the last couple of months. It has been a fun but exhausting experience to say the least! We have narrowed it down to a neighborhood we really like, and we are waiting hoping that some more houses go on the market soon before we make an offer on one.

We cannot wait to be home owners and have some more space. Keep your fingers crossed for us that we find something soon!

Have a good week everyone!

Ski Weekend

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a good weekend!

I spent a long weekend up north at Boyne Highlands with my boyfriend, Mike, and a big group of his friends. We arrived on Thursday after a four hour drive and relaxed for the night. On Friday, we hit the slopes! I used to ski at least once a year when I was younger and actually snowboarded as well, but haven’t been in quite a while. Thankfully, it wasn’t too hard to pick back up (I only fell a few times)! There was fresh snow on the ground and we had a lot of fun venturing down the hills as a group. After a warmup and lunch at the lodge, the girls headed back to the house. More people arrived on Friday evening and we spent the night playing lots of drinking games (flashback to college!).

On Saturday, we went skiing again and I felt more confident overall. I enjoyed the fresh air, pretty views, and company and look forward to going again. After a full day at Boyne, we returned to the house. We watched the MSU basketball game and made a taco bar for dinner. While we had intentions to go out to the hot tub or bar on Saturday, we ended up staying at the house and played more games. It was such a fun weekend!

Talk to you guys soon!

Weekend at the Phoenix Waste Management Open

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great Superbowl weekend. This past week, the Waste Management Phoenix Open golf tournament was in town. Kevin and I saw two concerts at the Birds Nest, the small concert arena at the tournament. On Wednesday night we saw Jake Owen and Chase Rice with some friends, and on Saturday night we went to Steve Aoki and Blink 182. Both concerts were fun, and Blink 182 was definitely a blast from the past and brought back our middle/high school days!

On Sunday, we hosted some of Kevin’s co-workers at the 16th hole Skybox. The 16th hole is known for being a ton of fun and gets pretty crazy as fans cheer and boo the golfers. It was a beautiful day to enjoy some golf (and a few cocktails)! Until next year..

Reunion in Arizona

Happy Monday! We had a great weekend together in Arizona! Time together always goes by too fast, but we were able to fit a lot of fun and quality time together in the few days we had.

On Thursday, Meg arrived to Arizona and we celebrated Amanda’s birthday. We had a nice dinner at FnB which is a farm-to-table restaurant that offers shareable small plates. Then we got ice cream for dessert and had a relaxing night at home.

We had a full day of fun planned on Friday. We woke up at a decent time to fit a workout out in before heading to Camelback Resort and Spa for massages. After our relaxing treatments, we had lunch. We headed home for some downtime before some more pampering. We got blowouts at DryBar (our fave!) before heading to dinner at Sumo Maya with Kevin. Sumo Maya is a Mexican Asian fusion restaurant and had a super fun atmosphere and lots of food options. We ended the night with some drinks at the bars in Old Town.

After sleeping in a little on Saturday, we went to breakfast at Amanda and Kev’s favorite place, Butters, in preparation for our hike. We hiked Pinnacle Peak and enjoyed the views, each others’ company, and the beautiful weather! The day went by quickly and soon we were enjoying dinner at Isabella’s, and Italian restaurant. We picked up dessert on the way home and enjoyed a relaxing night at home.

Before we knew it, Sunday rolled around. We started our Sunday with a sweat session at Bodi. Amanda and Kevin are regulars at Bodi, but it was Meg’s first time. The workout is a HIIT circuit-style class that included box jumps, ball slams, and weighted ropes. It was a killer workout for sure! After our workout, we watched the Michigan State basketball team’s victory against Michigan, Go Green! We are enjoying our final night together before Meg flies back to chilly, snowy Michigan tomorrow.

It was a great weekend together and it is always hard to say goodbye when we don’t know when the next time we will see each other will be. We hope everyone has a great week!

Barre Update

Happy Monday everyone! I am especially excited this Monday morning as I am off for a week after working all weekend. I am off to visit Amanda and Kevin in Arizona on Thursday for a long weekend, I can’t wait!

I wanted to share a barre update with you guys as it has been a while since I posted about it. I am still doing barre and LOVE it! I actually switched studios recently as I used to go to Pure Barre and now go to The Barre Code. I made the switch mostly due to location and price along with recommendations from friends, but I am very happy with my new studio.

The Barre Code offers a large variety of classes including a standard barre class, cardio-based classes, and even stretching classes. My current favorite is called brawl which is kickboxing. I always work up a sweat during this class and love the energy behind it. I normally take a kickboxing or another cardio-based class as well as a couple barre classes each week. I am excited to try Burn which is barre in a heated room… it sounds intense! The Barre Code uses a variety of equipment each class including weights, resistance bands, kettlebells, and balls.

I have been going with my friend from work which is so fun! Having a workout buddy and a monthly membership motivates me to sign up for classes each week. I definitely enjoy the variety of the classes The Barre Code offers and the times of the classes are easy to fit into my schedule.

I hope everyone has a motivating Monday!

Butternut Squash and Black Bean Tacos

I hope everyone had a good weekend! I have been looking to make some vegetarian meals to offset some of the more meat centered meals we usually have (and Kevin loves). I got a little bit of resistance that this recipe did not have any meat, but Kevin and I both thought the tacos were yummy and filling!

It is good to have some meals that are more plant based in our diet, and you cannot go wrong with yummy veggie and bean tacos. Check out the recipe below!

Recipe via avocadopesto.com

  • 3 cups diced butternut squash
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (divided)
  • 1-2 chipotle peppers in adobo, diced
  • 1/3 cup diced red onions
  • 1 cup black beans
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • handful cilantro, diced
  • 6-8 corn tortillas
  • lime, to garnish

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • In a bowl toss together squash, 1 tablespoon olive oil, paprika and salt. Bake in preheated oven on aluminum foil lined baking sheet for 20-25 minutes or until soft.
  • Heat pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil. Add red onions and chipotle peppers. Cook for a couple minutes and add the black beans. Add cumin and salt. Cook for a few minutes, mixing occasionally.
  • In a blender or food processor combine avocado, lime juice and 1 tablespoon olive oil. Blend until smooth. Add salt to taste.
  • Heat corn tortillas on skillet for 10-20 seconds per side.
  • Top tortillas with squash, black beans, avocado crema, squeeze of lime juice and cilantro.

I hope you enjoy it!

New Year, New Goals

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend (I was busy delivering babies😝)!

We are officially a week into 2017 and it is a good time to make sure you have goals set for the upcoming year. While some people set a single resolution for themselves for the year, my family has a tradition of setting multiple goals. My dad established “The Five F’s” years ago which includes creating goals in the following categories: family, friends, fitness, finance, fun. Growing up, my family would set goals in each category and share them with each other at the beginning of each year. Then, throughout the year we would re-evaluate the progress of our goals. Sharing your goals with others and revisiting your goals throughout the year is a good way to hold yourself accountable.

I feel good things coming in 2017! New year, new feels, new chances, same dreams, fresh starts. Let’s make it a good one!
